Double doors to the right (south wall) lead into the Great Hall. On the east wall are two doors, one on either side of the staircase. To the north of the staircase is a door leading down a flight of steps to the first dungeon level.

![[ ]](http://s3.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Prefects Bathroom fourth door to the left of the statue of Boris the Bewildered on the fifth floor". The door requires a password, and can be bolted from the inside. There is one piece of artwork in the bathroom itself, however, a rather flirtatious picture of a mermaid on one wall. Inside, the bathroom's walls, floor, and single sunken bathtub are all made of white marble, lit softly by a candle-filled chandelier. The rectangular tub is the size and depth of a swimming pool, and even has a diving board, but unlike an ordinary pool the tub is lined with about a hundred taps, each with a differently coloured jewel set into the handle. Each tap automatically releases not only water, but bubble bath (a different kind of bubble bath for each colour-coded handle). A pile of fluffy white towels are kept in one corner.

It is called the Come and Go Room by the house-elves of Hogwarts. The Room is located on the seventh floor, opposite a tapestry showing Barnabas the Barmy trying to teach trolls to dance the ballet. To make the Room appear, a person has to walk past the section of blank wall three times concentrating hard on what is needed.

![[ ]](http://s3.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Headmaster's Office The entrance to the headmaster's (or headmistress', depending on the era in question) office at Hogwarts is behind a statue of a gargoyle on the seventh floor. When given the proper password, the gargoyle will leap aside, and the wall behind it will split in two to reveal a spiral stone staircase that moves like an escalator. The oak door opens into a large and beautiful circular room with windows, at least one of which faces east with a view of some of the mountains surrounding the castle. The windows also afford a view of the Quidditch pitch.By day the office is sunlit, while at night it is illuminated by candlelight (OP22) and lamplight.
The walls of the office are covered with portraits of previous Headmasters and Headmistresses. The wall immediately behind the Headmaster's desk has a shelf holding the Sorting Hat. Gryffindor's sword is kept in a glass case beside the Sorting Hat. Another wall of the office holds a fireplace that can be connected to the Floo Network when needed. The Headmaster's desk is an enormous, claw-footed affair that apparently goes with the room. The desk faces the door leading up from the gargoyle; a visitor standing with his back to the Headmaster's chair (which is particularly high-backed) will find himself or herself staring out at the Quidditch pitch. The Headmaster keeps a visitor's chair but sometimes has to conjure more when several visitors arrive suddenly.

![[ ]](http://s3.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Astronomy Tower Classes are held at midnight. The top of this tower where observation sessions are held for Astronomy is more or less directly above the front entrance of the castle; the top of the tower has a parapet.A steep spiral staircase leads to the top of the tower, with a door (which has an iron ring as a handle) leading out onto the ramparts, which are crenellated. To get from the foot of the Astronomy Tower's staircase to the staircase leading to the entrance hall, one must pass through two corridors before rounding the corner to see the staircase leading (eventually) to the Entrance Hall .

![[ ]](http://s3.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Divination Tower At the base of the North Tower is the round room where divination classes take place. To get to the classroom you have to take a ladder up through the floor. There is an oppressive fire with a copper kettle that gives off sweet-smelling fumes and the walls are lined with shelves: tea cups, crystal balls, decks of cards, etc. There are also small round tables, squashy armchairs and little pouffes.

![[ ]](http://s3.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | West Tower/Owlery The Owlery, where the school owls and the owls belonging to students live, is located on the top of West Tower. The Owlery was a circular stone room, rather cold and drafty, because none of the windows had glass in them. The floor was entirely covered in straw, owl droppings, and the regurgitated skeletons of mice and voles. Hundreds upon hundreds of owls of every breed imaginable were nestled here on perches that rose right up to the top of the tower, nearly all of them asleep, though here and there a round amber eye glare at you.

A crossbow and a pair of galoshes were outside the front door...There was only one room inside. Hams and pheasants were hanging from the ceiling, a copper kettle was boiling on the open fire, and in the corner stood a massive bed with a patchwork quilt over it. There is an enormous cauldron, used for cooking, copper kettles and cupboards filled with milk pitchers, plates, mugs tea pots.

This forest is strictly off limits to Hogwarts students, except in the course of occasional Care of Magical Creatures lesson or detentions. The forest is thick with trees such as beech, oak , pine, sycamore and yew as well as undergrowth such as knotgrass and thorns -- but there are paths, brooks, and some clearings. Off the path, the way is almost impassable, although people have moved through it and creatures as large as Acromantulas. The forbidden forest is home to a wide and strange assortment of creatures. Anything wild and dangerous that needs a place to live is put there. There are areas around the edges of the forest that are part of the Hogwarts grounds but which are out of sight of the castle.

| Hogsmeade |
![[ ]](http://s3.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Shops and Such Hogsmeade is the only entirely wizarding village in Britain (PA5). According to tradition it was founded over a thousand years ago, around the same time as Hogwarts, by Hengist of Woodcroft as he was fleeing persecution by Muggles. It's a picturesque little village of thatched cottages and shops, with enchanted candles hanging in the trees during the holidays. As Hogsmeade is located just down the road from Hogwarts, the school and the village have always shared a special relationship. On select Saturdays throughout the school year the village is filled with Hogwarts students, who are allowed to visit beginning in their third year; some of the Hogwarts teachers, including visit more frequently.

![[ ]](http://s3.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Gringotts Wizarding Bank (4 sub-boards) Partway down Diagon Alley, near its intersection with Knockturn Alley, stands an imposing snow-white marble building: Gringotts Wizarding Bank. "Towering over the other shops" , it is the place where British witches and wizards store their money and other valuables, in vaults miles below ground. The vaults are heavily guarded. The centuries-old bank is run by goblins, and they alone know the secrets of the twisting underground passages and the enchantments (and creatures!) in place to defend against intruders. The goblins have a code that forbids them to speak of the bank's secrets, and would consider it "base treachery" to break any part of that code.

![[ ]](http://s3.images.proboards.com/off.gif) | Diagon Alley (5 sub-boards) Tapping just the right brick in the wall behind the Leaky Cauldron in London ("Three up...two across...") will reveal an archway which is a portal into Diagon Alley, a long cobbled street where is to be found a strange and exciting assortment of shops and restaurants. It is unquestionably the hub of commerce in the British wizarding world, with virtually every wizarding business stationed there. Consequently, the demand for space here is steep, and rent costs "loads of Galleons"
